Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has firmly stated that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will not be implemented in the state, terming it as "entirely unnecessary." Following the Centre's notification of the CAA rules, Stalin reiterated his opposition to the legislation, emphasizing its adverse impact on minorities and Sri Lankan Tamils residing in camps within Tamil Nadu for decades. Despite lacking formal authority to obstruct the CAA's implementation, Stalin's announcement carries significant political weight, reflecting the state government's stance on the contentious issue.

"So, the Government will not allow the implementation of the Act in Tamil Nadu," he said. Stalin's government asserts that the CAA contradicts the interests of minorities and could potentially undermine India's unity. Despite the absence of explicit powers granted to states regarding the CAA's implementation, Stalin affirms Tamil Nadu's refusal to enact the legislation, signaling a firm stand against measures perceived as detrimental to national unity and minority rights.
